Supporting local producers of art
and craft items is good for the local economy and
likely to be more green than buying mass produced
items. Just bear in mind that artists and
craftspeople may not be working with local
materials.
Supporting local arts events can
be inspirational, encourages their success and
needs less travel than going further afield.
Clothing choices are not so
different from those for food and drink. Much of our
clothing is imported, so the distance travelled is a
worthwhile consideration, as are
Fairtrade goods such as those offered by
Traidcraft.
Making your own clothing is
another option -

A quarter of the world’s
agrochemicals are used to produce cotton - try to
buy organic cotton products. They are
increasingly available in the shops.
